Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how JBF Coastal LLC, an Oregon limited liability company and the operator of the quPi product and brand (“JBF Coastal,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information through qupi.net, the quPi mobile application, pre-registration forms, and related products and services (collectively, the “Services”).
1. Scope
This Policy applies when you visit our website, join a product availability list, use the quPi app, contact us, purchase digital items or products, enable AI Dialogue, or otherwise interact with the Services. It does not govern third-party services that publish their own privacy policies.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on which Services and features you use, we may collect or process the following categories of information:
- Contact and registration information: name, email address, product interest, support messages, and other information you choose to provide.
- App profile and aquarium information: preferred player name, fish names, fish personality and bond data, aquarium progress, owned fish and structures, game activity, preferences, remembered answers, and other saved app state.
- Voice and conversation information: microphone audio when you affirmatively enable a voice feature, speech-to-text results, typed prompts, AI prompts and responses, and conversation details used to provide dialogue and personalization. Audio may be processed on your device and/or by Android, Google, a device manufacturer, or another speech-recognition provider, depending on your device and feature configuration. Microphone access is controlled through your device permissions.
- Optional AI Dialogue information: if you enable AI Dialogue, quPi sends information needed to generate a personalized fish response through a Cloudflare Worker and then to Groq, our AI inference provider. This may include typed text or recognized speech text, the locally stored player name, fish name and type, fish personality, mood, bond, trust, attachment, fear, hunger, happiness, stress, curiosity, interaction counts, favorite or recent interactions, remembered phrases, fish memory notes, and a limited number of recent conversation-memory summaries.
- Random app installation identifier: when AI Dialogue is used, quPi generates a random, pseudonymous installation identifier. It is stored in the app’s local preferences and sent with AI requests so we can apply request limits, prevent abuse, and protect service availability. It is not the phone’s hardware identifier, Android Advertising ID, phone number, serial number, precise location, or an identifier obtained from contacts or user accounts.
- Purchase information: products, subscriptions, virtual currency, food, fish, structures, or other items purchased. Mobile payments are processed by the applicable app marketplace, such as Google Play. We generally receive transaction status, product identifiers, receipts, and order or transaction identifiers needed to fulfill and validate purchases, not your complete payment-card number.
- Device and technical information: device type, operating system, app version, language, approximate region inferred from IP address, the random app installation identifier described above, browser type, request time, response status, traffic-routing information, log data, diagnostics, and error information.
- Usage information: screens and features used, aquarium and fish interactions, session timing, game counts and scores, tutorial status, AI service usage amounts, and performance information.
- Website information: cookies and similar technologies used for essential site operation, security, form processing, and, when enabled, analytics.
We do not intentionally collect more information than reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and improve the Services.
3. AI Dialogue and Voice Processing
AI Dialogue is optional and can be turned on or off through the app’s options. When AI Dialogue is on, recognized speech text or text entered by the user, together with the limited aquarium context described above, is transmitted over HTTPS to a service operated for us using Cloudflare Workers. The service forwards the AI request to Groq, which processes it to produce a fish response.
quPi does not send raw microphone audio to Cloudflare or Groq through the AI Dialogue feature. Raw audio may still be processed separately by the speech-recognition service installed or configured on the user’s device.
quPi does not intentionally maintain a server-side database of AI prompts, AI responses, or installation identifiers. A generated response and a summary of a conversation considered important may be stored locally on the device as part of a fish’s gameplay memory.
Groq states that ordinary inference inputs and outputs are not retained by default. Groq may temporarily retain inputs inference inputs or outputs for up to 30 days when necessary to troubleshoot service reliability or investigate suspected abuse, unless Zero Data Retention applies. Groq also retains usage metadata that does not contain customer inputs or outputs.
Users should not include passwords, payment-card information, health information, precise location, government identification numbers, or other sensitive personal information in AI Dialogue.
4. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- Provide and personalize the Services.
- Save aquarium progress and recognize user preferences.
- Operate microphone, speech-recognition, conversation, and fish-reaction features.
- Generate optional AI Dialogue tailored to the selected fish’s personality, mood, bond, gameplay state, and locally stored memories.
- Apply AI request limits, prevent abuse, maintain security, and protect service availability.
- Process, validate, and fulfill purchases and subscriptions.
- Provide customer support and respond to privacy requests.
- Send requested product-availability communications.
- Analyze service performance and diagnose errors or crashes.
- Improve features and comply with legal obligations.
- Protect the rights, safety, and property of JBF Coastal, our users, and others.
Pre-registration is not a purchase. If you join a product list, we use your contact information to send availability and purchase information about the product you selected. You may ask to be removed at any time.
5. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose or make personal information available to:
- Cloudflare: Cloudflare hosts and protects the Worker that receives optional AI Dialogue requests. Cloudflare may process request information, IP addresses, routing information, response status, and related service metadata needed to operate and secure the service.
- Groq: Groq processes optional AI Dialogue prompts and generates responses for the app. The transmitted prompt may contain the conversation and aquarium context described in this Policy.
- Speech-recognition and platform providers: Android, Google, device manufacturers, or other installed speech services may process microphone audio or speech-recognition results under their own terms and privacy notices.
- Other service providers: providers that perform website hosting, email delivery, form processing, cloud storage, customer support, analytics, crash reporting, security, or similar functions for us.
- App marketplaces and payment processors: providers such as Google Play that complete purchases, validate subscriptions, and prevent fraud.
- Professional advisers: attorneys, accountants, insurers, and auditors when reasonably necessary.
- Government authorities or other parties: when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect legal rights, safety, or security.
- Transaction participants: parties involved in a financing, merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not currently use personal information, microphone audio, AI Dialogue, or aquarium data for targeted advertising. If these practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any choices required by applicable law.
6. Data Retention
Local gameplay data, processed transaction identifiers, locally stored conversation memories, settings, and the random installation identifier remain on the device until the user resets applicable data through an available app feature, clears the app’s storage, or uninstalls the app. Reinstalling the app or clearing its storage may cause a new random installation identifier to be created.
Turning off AI Dialogue stops new conversations from being transmitted to the quPi Cloudflare Worker and Groq for AI responses. Turning AI Dialogue off does not automatically erase locally saved gameplay or conversation memories.
The quPi Cloudflare Worker does not intentionally maintain a server-side database of prompts, responses, or installation identifiers. Cloudflare may retain limited request, network, security, and service metadata according to its applicable terms and privacy notices.
Groq may temporarily retain inference inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for service-reliability or suspected-abuse investigations unless Zero Data Retention applies. Groq may retain non-content usage metadata according to its applicable terms.
We otherwise retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain required records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and meet legal, tax, accounting, or security obligations. We may de-identify information and retain it in a form that cannot reasonably be linked to an individual.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. AI Dialogue requests are transmitted using HTTPS. The Groq API credential is maintained in the Cloudflare Worker configuration and is not included in the mobile app or Android package. Request limits are applied using the random installation identifier to help prevent automated abuse.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their devices and any account credentials.
8. Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You may disable microphone access, turn off AI Dialogue, limit device permissions, unsubscribe from availability emails, clear the app’s storage, uninstall the app, or stop using the Services.
When AI Dialogue is turned off, quPi does not send new conversations to the quPi Cloudflare Worker or Groq for AI responses. Unmatched dialogue may instead use available built-in responses.
Depending on where you live and whether a law applies to JBF Coastal, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information; obtain information about certain recipients; or opt out of certain processing.
Oregon residents may have rights under the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act, including access, correction, deletion, portability, information about third-party recipients, and opt-out rights for certain sales, targeted advertising, or profiling. These statutory rights apply when the law’s coverage requirements are met. We will also honor applicable universal opt-out signals when legally required.
To submit a request or appeal a decision, email info@qupi.net with the subject “Privacy Request” or “Privacy Appeal.” We may verify your identity before completing a request. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law.
9. Children’s Privacy
The general-audience Services are not intended for children under 13 to use independently. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without legally required parental notice and verifiable consent.
Microphone and optional AI Dialogue features are intended for in-app play. Children should not provide sensitive personal information through AI Dialogue. Parents and guardians should supervise minors’ use of voice, conversation, purchase, and communication features and may disable AI Dialogue through the app’s options.
A parent or guardian who believes a child provided personal information without appropriate consent should contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.
If quPi offers a child-directed or mixed-audience feature, we will provide any additional notice, age-screening, parental-consent, access, deletion, security, and retention controls required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and other applicable laws.

11. International Use
JBF Coastal is based in Oregon, United States. If you use the Services from another jurisdiction, information may be processed in the United States or other locations where Cloudflare, Groq, Google, or our other service providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.
12. Changes to This Policy
